 Tuberculosis Investigation

Amador County Public Health is conducting an investigation of an active tuberculosis (TB) case documented within Mule Creek State Prison. The local health department is working with California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Mule Creek State Prison, as well as the California Department of Health Tuberculosis Control Branch.

Mule Creek State Prison is following all local health department medical and health guidance and is fully cooperating with the case contact inquiry. “TB control measures, case treatment, and thorough contact investigations have been instituted in close collaboration with our correctional facility partners,” states   Dr. Rita Kerr, Amador County Health Officer.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that usually affects the lungs. TB bacteria are spread from person to person through the air. TB germs are transmitted when a person with TB disease coughs, sneezes, laughs, or sings.
