The Amador County Environmental Health Department oversees public pools and spas within the county for the protection of public health and safety. A public pool is defined as swimming pools, spa pools, and wading pools, at: apartments, condominiums, townhouses, hotels, motels, schools, community centers, health clubs, mobile home parks, campgrounds, or resorts.
This program was developed to ensure that all public pools and spas are free of safety hazards and risk of communicable diseases. The Environmental Health Department reviews plans for compliance with code requirements, conducts construction inspections, makes unannounced inspections of pools and spas throughout the year, and investigates complaints. Our inspections cover a wide range of issues from construction, water chemistry, to operations.
Please contact the Environmental Health Department in addition to the Building Department with jurisdiction over the area in which the pool/spa is or going to be located for appropriate permits when constructing, remodeling or altering any public swimming pool and spa. Any changes made to a public pool/spa deck, barrier or equipment requires review and approval from the Amador County Environmental Health Department prior to start of work even if the public pool/spa is located within one of Amador County's incorporated cities and a building permit has been obtained from the Building Department.
If you have any questions or would like more information on a particular facility that we inspect, please contact us at (209)223-6439.
