Amador County Animal Control Dog license requirements and information

  • All dogs must be vaccinated for rabies and an Amador County Animal Control  dog license must be purchased at 4 months of age or within 10 days of acquiring a new dog.
  • A reduced fee is offered for spayed and neutered dogs. Proof of spay/neuter must be provided at the time of licensing to qualify for the discount.
  • The rabies vaccination required for dogs must be good through the licensing period.
  • New residents to Amador County must comply with the dog licensing ordinance within 30 days of residency.
  • Dog licenses can be purchased at Amador County Animal Control or by mail. To purchase by mail, fill out the Dog Licensing form and mail in with a current rabies vaccination certificate. Dog licenses can also be purchased through participating local Veterinarians and local participating City Halls.
  • Senior citizen discounts for dog licensing are offered if the dog owner is 65 years of age or older and the dog being licensed has been spayed/neutered. Proof of age is required at time of licensing.
  • Licensed dogs wearing their issued tag's are more likely to be returned home because they are more easily identifiable.
  • The fee for reclaiming your dog if it is brought to the shelter is reduced if the dog is current on rabies vaccinations and licensing.
