Amador County Animal Control Dog license requirements and information

All dogs must be vaccinated for rabies and an Amador County Animal Control dog license must be purchased at 4 months of age or within 10 days of acquiring a new dog.

A reduced fee is offered for spayed and neutered dogs. Proof of spay/neuter must be provided at the time of licensing to qualify for the discount.

The rabies vaccination required for dogs must be good through the licensing period.

New residents to Amador County must comply with the dog licensing ordinance within 30 days of residency.

Dog licenses can be purchased at Amador County Animal Control or by mail. To purchase by mail, fill out the Dog Licensing form and mail in with a current rabies vaccination certificate. Dog licenses can also be purchased through participating local Veterinarians and local participating City Halls.
- Senior citizen discounts for dog licensing are offered if the dog owner is 65 years of age or older and the dog being licensed has been spayed/neutered. Proof of age is required at time of licensing.
- Licensed dogs wearing their issued tag's are more likely to be returned home because they are more easily identifiable.
- The fee for reclaiming your dog if it is brought to the shelter is reduced if the dog is current on rabies vaccinations and licensing.
