Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria usually attack the lungs, but TB bacteria can attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine, and brain. Not everyone infected with TB bacteria becomes sick. As a result, two TB-related conditions exist: latent TB infection (LTBI) and TB disease. If not treated properly, latent TB can progress to active TB disease which can be fatal.

Amador County Public Health (ACPH) is dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of our population by addressing the threat of tuberculosis (TB) within our community. With a commitment to proactive prevention, health education, collaboration, and complete surveillance we aim to prevent the spread of TB and ensure timely access to screening, testing, and support services.
